FRANKLIN
The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, New Kent County Sheriff’s Office, Sussex Sheriff’s Office and Franklin Fire and Rescue Squad will host a child safety seat event on Monday, Nov. 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Franklin Walmart parking lot. Sponsored by Safe Kids Virginia and Bojangles, the purpose is to educate parents, grandparents, guardians or anyone who will be transporting children.

Technicians will be there to ensure that the seats are installed safely and give additional tips on occupant safety. Bojangles’ Bo Time Chicken will pass out coloring books and crayons, and McGruff the crime dog will also be present. A bounce house will be provided by Wayne Cooke.

Deputies will have handouts for the public about fraud and identity theft prevention, as well as a course to demonstrate how driving under the influence affects reaction times and driving skills.

The event is free to the public, and your child does not need to be present for the seat to be checked and installed. If you are unable to attend this event, you can make an appointment to have your child safety seat checked or installed at the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office by contacting Deputy Serena White at scwhite@shso.org.

Anyone interested in donating child safety seats for this even can drop them off at the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office at any time. For more information, contact the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office at 653-2100.
