To the Editor:

Those who live around Courtland may have already seen her, for she has been “hitting the pavement” and knocking on doors. If you’ve not yet met her, let me introduce Mrs. Yvonne Rose, who I’ve known for more than 30 years now. Yvonne is running for the Southampton’s Board of Supervisors seeking to represent the Jerusalem District. Born in Southampton and raised in Franklin, Yvonne is married to Larry B. “Chuck” Rose and mother of five.

I met Yvonne in the early ‘80s when she worked with the Franklin Department of Social Services and I was a young lawyer working in Juvenile Court. For more than 33 years, Yvonne was a “moving force” in the department, sincerely interested in the health and development of area youth.

Yvonne knows that there are few problems that cannot be solved through education. An early investment our youth pays dividends for years to come.

Yvonne’s volunteer work shows where her heart is: Smart Beginnings Board member, Southampton High School Athletic Facilities Improvement Board and the board of our STOP program, serving the diverse needs of our area. Her work with the CAN Committee reflects her dedication in bringing our diverse community together to talk out problems and seek solutions.

More recently, and for more than six years, Yvonne served as the legislative assistant to our delegate, the Hon. Roslyn Tyler. Yvonne knows the “inner workings” of the Virginia legislature, and she would bring to the Board the benefit of her contacts and her experience which, with her business degree, will help ensure that Southampton gets its fair share of state resources for both business and education. Those in the Jerusalem District will see her on the Nov. 3rd ballot as D. Yvonne Rose.

I hope you will give her your support.
