FRANKLIN
The Franklin Broncos erased a 12-point second half deficit to Greensville on Friday night, but a failed two-point conversion in overtime was the difference in the Eagles’ 42-40 win. It was a crucial game in the TriRivers District for both teams, as they each entered with only one division loss apiece.

After the teams exchanged consecutive scoring drives to open the game, Greensville rushed ahead on four-straight scoring drives. Junior quarterback Shyheim Anderson found the endzone three times — one through the air and two on the ground — and running back Naquan Jordan blasted through the line for a 60-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 34-22 advantage at halftime.

Franklin’s defense held the potent Greensville offense scoreless for the remainder of regulation as they crept back into it. Quarterback Darrien Duck led two second half scoring drives, including a highlight reel 34-yard scramble, to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.

It was Greensville’s Jordan who took over in the extra frame, however, as he powered in from 10 yards out to give the Eagles the lead for good. After Franklin running back Javonte Baker cut the lead to two points on a 7-yard touchdown, his teammate Quayshawn Jefferson — who rushed for 187 yards — was stopped short of the goal line on the two-point conversion attempt.

The Broncos will look to rebound on Friday evening when they travel to Windsor for The Tidewater News’ Game of the Week.
