Gabriel Walker Sr.

NEWPORT NEWS — Gabriel Walker Sr., 66, son of the late Johnnie and Cora P. Walker, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

Gabriel was born in Southampton County, Virginia, and graduated from Riverview High School Class of ’67. Upon graduation, he moved to Williamsburg and was a longtime employee of Colonial Williamsburg.

Gabriel attended Culinary Arts School and worked in various restaurants and capacities including a partnership and chef at the Welcome South Restaurant. Gabriel had a vision of owning his own business, and he reached his goal with the establishment of Gabe’s Cookery. As owner, he served customers in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. Gabe had the privilege and honor of providing full-service breakfast and lunch for the employees of the APAC firm in Newport News until his health failed.

Gabe leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Gabriel Walker Jr. (Christine) and Rodney Wise (Sherry); and his siblings; Pamelia Walker, Mary W. Stephens (Joe), Michael Walker (Dorothy), Cora L. Walker, Edith W. Evans (Leroy) and A. Naomi Walker. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The funeral will be on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. in Bright Lilly Disciples Church of Christ, 27167 Bishop Poquoson Road, Newsoms, Virginia.

Gabriel will be placed in the church for viewing at noon.
