Shady Lee Joyner Jr.

FRANKLIN — Shady Lee “Buck” Joyner Jr., 85, retired superintendent of Roll Finishing at Union Camp Corp., died on Oct. 7, 2015, in Inman, South Carolina.

He was the son of the late Shady Lee Joyner and Lucy Mae Lowe Joyner, and was also predeceased by a son, Brian Joyner, and a sister, Hazel J. Darden.

Mr. Joyner was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and Second Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and worked for 40 years with Union Camp before retiring in 1989.

Buck coached YMCA Little League, was involved with Boy Scouts, was a former Virginia National Guardsman, and was a member of the Hunterdale Ruritan Club. He was also a member of the Franklin Jaycees, where he served in every local office, was a state committee chairman and a member of the board of directors. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 151 AF&AM and the Cypress Cove Country Club, a former Shriner and was a former member and president of Franklin Fire and Rescue.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Edna Robertson Joyner; two daughters, Clair J. Evers of Pensacola, Florida, and Elaine J. Pruitt (Paul) of Spartanburg; two sisters, Julia Mae Carr and Kathleen J. “Kitty” Slaton, both of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Amanda E. Flescher and Ashley R. Evers.

The graveside service will be at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin, on Friday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to any Shriners’ Children’s Hospital.
