IVOR — Robert “Bobby” Joseph Owens passed peacefully on Oct. 7, 2015.

He was predeceased by Rebecca Cornwell Owens, his wife of 53 years, and his parents, Thomas Holt Brantley and Virginia Brantley.

Bobby was a lifelong resident of the Ivor community. He attended Virginia Tech for two years prior to being drafted into the Army and serving in Korea and Panama. He served as Ivor Postmaster for 20 years before returning to his main love of farming peanuts.

Bobby had a strong love for his family and friends and dedicated his life to providing for them. He enjoyed his favorite sports teams, the VA Tech Hokies, Boston Red Sox and the Washington Redskins. Bobby was a member of the Ivor Masonic Lodge and had a strong love for baseball, dogs and telling a tall tale.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Lynn Owens-Goodrich and husband, Lynn, of Ivor; son, Robert Neil Owens of Ivor; daughter, Wendy Owens Bass and husband, Mel, of Savannah, Georgia; three special granddaughters, Mackenzie, Kennedy and Erin; and a host of extended family and good friends.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, Oct.12, in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. The graveside memorial service with military honors and Masonic rites will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Ivor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.
