The Tidewater News will host a candidate forum on Tuesday, Oct. 20 that will feature those seeking a position on the Southampton County Board of Supervisors. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in Southampton High School.

Incumbent Dr. Alan Edwards and challenger Yvonne Rose of the Jerusalem District; Barry Porter and Earva Sumblin of the Franklin-Hunterdale District; and Glenn Updike and Randolph Cooke of the Newsoms District are expected to be in attendance.

Tony Clark, publisher of The Tidewater News, will ask the candidates a series of questions and solicit their views on a variety of issues in Southampton County.

“I hope Southampton County residents will take the opportunity to hear from those who will be responsible for the future of their county,” Clark said. “Being informed on a candidate’s position on the issues is a responsibility voters should take seriously.”

Readers of The Tidewater News will also have an opportunity to participate in the forum by submitting topics that they would like to hear the candidates discuss. Topics for discussion or specific questions can be submitted by email to candidatequestions@tidewaternews.com. The deadline for submitting topics or questions is Friday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m.
