The local businesses of Downtown Franklin are trying to get more business and attract people to shop locally more often.
According to the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR), the top 10 reasons to support locally owned businesses are local character and prosperity, community well-being, local decision making, keeping dollars in the local economy, jobs and wages, entrepreneurship, public benefits and costs, environment sustainability, competition and product diversity.
“Locally owned businesses build strong communities by sustaining vibrant town centers, linking neighbors in a web of economic and social relationships and contributing to local causes. Compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses recycle a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community,” according to the ILSR website.
The money raised from these discount cards will help put on more downtown events and help put a sign on Route 58 to encourage local shopping. These cards can be purchased at the local shops during the Franklin Fall Festival this weekend.
