FRANKLIN
Shortly after 4 a.m. on Thursday, Franklin police officers responded to the Bojangles at 2301 South St., for reports of stolen cash. Soon after 8 a.m., Antonio C. Wood, 26, of Cobb St., Franklin, was taken into custody for the crime. Quickly after the officers arrived to the scene, they learned that a suspect had entered via the drive-thru window and removed money from a safe in the manager’s office. Evidence was found at the scene, and after viewing the video surveillance, the officers identified the suspect as Wood.

As part of the investigation, residences of Cobb and South streets were searched where further evidence was recovered — which included the majority of the cash that was stolen.

“I’m very proud of our officers and how quickly they were able to identify the suspect and find what was stolen,” said Capt. Tim Whitt of the Franklin Police Department.

Wood is being held in Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond. He is being charged with burglary and grand larceny.
