OAKLAND, Calif. — Hugh Edward Barnes, 79, a native of Southampton County, departed this life on Sept. 9, 2015.

Surviving family members include his wife, Della Barnes, of Oakland, California; three children, Elmer Hall, Delbert Barnes and Mary Katherine Barnes, all of California; a brother, Melvin C. Barnes of Newsoms, Virginia; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The graveside service will be on Sept. 26, at 1 p.m, at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 1101 Campostella Road, Chesapeake, Virginia.
