YALE — Michael Wayne Harrell, 59, of Yale, Virginia, completed his earthly journey to continue his spiritual journey with Our Lord and Savior, on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Pamela Phelps Harrell; daughter, Abbey Harrell Webb, and husband, Jared; son, Thomas Wayne Harrell and wife, Melissa; beloved friend whom Mike called son, Joey Hartly, and his fiancée, Mary Anna Richardson; and seven grandchildren, Rylee, Reagan and Brody Webb, McKenzie and Joshua Lennick and Karson and Bryson Harrell.

Mike is also survived by his loving and compassionate sister, Nita Harrell Wright (Johnny); and sister-in-law, Nancy Harrell; brother-in-law, Billy Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Edna Harrell; brother, Warren Harrell; and sister, Joyce Harrell Morris.

An ordained minister, Mike served the congregations of Cypress Chapel Baptist Church in Spring Hope, North Carolina; Millfield Baptist Church in Ivor, Virginia; Antioch Baptist Church in Yale; interim at Franklin Congregational Christian Church in Franklin, Virginia; and pastor of Purdy Baptist Church in Purdy, Virginia. Mike also served as chaplain for Southampton Correctional Center in Capron, Virginia.

Devoted to serving the Lord and sharing his faith with others, Mike touched the lives of many. It is no secret to most, Mike had a way of challenging you to evaluate your journey, to be still and listen to the Lord and work on fulfilling the purpose he set forth for you. Mike’s earthly journey may be complete, but his spirit lives on through so many.

The family will receive friends at Owens Funeral Home in Jarratt, Virginia, on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. The service to celebrate Mike’s life will be at Oak Level Farm, 23249 Peters Bridge Road, Yale, on Friday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice Foundation of At Home Care Hospice, 4118 Fitzhugh Ave., Richmond, VA 23230.
