Who’s ready for school? We are!

We’re as excited as parents that school begins this Tuesday.

While they’re likely glad the children are out from their feet, we’re looking forward to reporting on the progress that both students and teachers make in the coming year. And we’re not just talking about the SOLs here.

As we have for the past couple of years, The Tidewater News wants to continue featuring not just the academics, but also the athletics and extracurricular activities that are so integral to a fulfilling school experience. By documenting scholarships earned, trophies awarded or lessons learned, the paper provides chronicles worth remembering. Many clippings find their way into personal scrapbooks.

Faculty, staff and administration: Please let us know about some person(s) or event(s) worthy of reporting, or you can even send photos and information to us via any of the staff writers’ emails: andrew.lind@tidewaternews.com; rebecca.chappell@tidewaternews.com; and stephen.cowles@tidewaternews.com. Of course, you can always call us as well at 562-3187.

As long as we have your attention, there’s one other matter worth repeating. Now that classes resume this Tuesday — did we already say this Tuesday? — drivers are urged to be extra careful during the morning or afternoon commutes. Students will be making their way to and fro on foot, bicycle and bus. Keep an eye out for them, and don’t even think about driving around the school bus that has a stop sign out.
