Are you ready for some football?

One of our favorite times of the year is upon us, the dawning of a new football season. While high school football coverage causes us some logistical challenges — mainly waiting for final results on Friday night and still getting the paper out on time — it is a labor of love, and one we look forward to all summer. There’s a lot of excitement around our local teams this year, and if you picked up Wednesday’s edition you were able to read in our annual football preview what coaches expect from their squads this fall. One is even predicting another state title.
Another thing you may have noticed in the preview is that we listed a schedule for our featured game of the week. This season we will take a slightly different approach in our coverage. While we will publish the final score of each game in Sunday’s edition, we will focus our reporting on what we feel is the biggest game of the week, providing more in-depth coverage and photography from that game.
And rather than rely on late-night phone calls from coaches returning from far-flung road games on Friday nights in order to provide brief recaps of that action, we will provide game information and much more in Wednesday’s edition.
So lace up your cleats and buckle your chinstraps, as we prepare for another exiting season of high school football. We wish each of our teams a safe and successful season.
