A 27-year-old Hampton man was arrested in Newsoms on Aug. 10, when police officers found that he had several active or outstanding warrants on file. Randy Lee Yarborough was wanted by Hampton Police for three counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of abduction and kidnapping malicious bodily injury following a May robbery.

Yarborough attempted to elude police during the routine traffic stop, and charges of reckless endangerment and hit and run causing personal injury have since been added.

“We caught up with him, made contact and detained him,” said Lt. Jerry Studer of the Newsoms Police Department. “We ran his information and he came back wanted on capias in Hampton and Newport News. At that time, we arrested him and he was booked in the Southampton County Jail.”

Warrants for Yarborough were issued on May 8 when officers responded to Colonial Landing Apartment in Hampton. There, a 20-year-old woman and 15-year-old boy said that someone entered their home, displayed a gun and demanded cash.
