Dr. Alvera Parrish, superintendent of Southampton County Public Schools, announced Riverdale Elementary’s new administrative board at the school board meeting on Tuesday night.

Will Melbye will assume the position of principal, having previously served as the assistant principal for the 2014-2015 school year. Prior to that, Melbye taught in the history department of Southampton High School for many years.

“On behalf of myself and the staff, thank you so much for this opportunity,” he said. “We are so excited and we will be hitting the ground running to work as hard as we can to make sure that all the students at Riverdale are successful.”

Tamee Railey, last school year’s administrative assistant, has been promoted to the role of assistant principal. Railey has a background in special education at Southampton Middle School.

“I would just like the board for this opportunity. I just want to say thank you for the board’s support and Dr. Parish’s support. My transition last year was smooth and wonderful and I look forward to this year as well,” said Railey. “We’ve already been working together, we’ve meshed well as a team … and we can’t wait to see the great things that Riverdale has in store for this year.”

Finally, Verylessie Little, the school’s reading specialist, will take over the position of administrative assistant.

“Thank you so much for this opportunity to serve Southampton County Public Schools,” said Little. “I will certainly try to do what is asked of me and go beyond.”

“We’re very pleased to have this team for the 2015-2016,” Parrish said.
