Submissions for the Field Crops and Horticulture exhibit for the 2015 Franklin-Southampton County Fair were accepted by the exhibitors on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Crops or products submitted must have been made or grown after Aug. 14, according to the Fair Rules and Regulations.

Submissions included crops such as corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat and sorghum, fruits and vegetables such as watermelons, tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, okra and peppers.

“We got a pretty good turnout with the entries,” said Chris Drake, chairman of the horticulture exhibit. “The corn looks really good, and we have some pretty cotton this year. The weather conditions didn’t lend itself to good cotton, but we’ve got a few entries that look really nice. It ought to be a good exhibit for everyone to come see.”

First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in the various categories delineated by the Fair Rules and Regulations adopted by the Fair Board. Judging commenced as soon as the exhibitors finished accepting submissions, and the results will be on display when the gates open for admission today at 4 p.m.
