S.P. Morton celebrates summer learning

S.P. Morton Elementary School students were treated to a ceremony — complete with cake — to conclude the summer school program they participated in this year.

“It was very successful,” said Principal Jason Chandler, who gave remarks for the occasion. “We want to continue that as we roll through the school year.”
Over 100 students enrolled in the program, which got started the first week of July, and they met for four days each week. In addition to lessons on math, reading and science, the children had opportunities for enrichment classes and field trips.
Chandler credited Assistant Principal Terri Pittman for her work in organizing the summer school; she started planning this past January and February.
“She did a wonderful job,” he added.
