SPRING GROVE — Henry Burleigh “Brother” Holdsworth Jr., 87, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at his home.

He was a retired postmaster of Spring Grove, and was a previous member of the local Ruritan Club during which time he served as a past Zone Governor.

Mr. Holdsworth was a board member of Surry Academy as well as the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad and served as a Master Mason and Trustee of the Claremont Virginia Lodge No. 177.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Burleigh Holdsworth Sr. and Grace Maude Clements Holdsworth; his wife of 67 years, Marian Leigh Chappelle Holdsworth; and his sisters, Florence H. Hill, Charlotte H. Ashton, Virginia H. Reibsaman and Marian H. Huber.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Mary Grace Holdsworth Padgett and husband, Don; grandchildren, Jay Anthony Padgett and wife, Anna, and Geneva “Genny” Padgett, all of Spring Grove and numerous nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at Waverly Cemetery, Spring Branch Road, Waverly, with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carsley United Methodist Church c/o Cindy Chappell, 224 Otterdam Road, Waverly, VA 23890, or Brandon Episcopal Church, 18721 James River Drive, Disputanta VA 23842.
