WINDSOR
A 3-year-old Windsor girl is reported in critical condition after nearly drowning on Friday. Police Chief R.D. Riddle stated in a press release earlier on Saturday that a 911 call came to the Isle of Wight Emergency Communications Center at approximately 5:47 p.m.

The child was found floating in a residential swimming pool in the 40 block of Holland Lane. Town police, rescue squad and volunteer fire department personnel responded.

“Upon arrival, emergency crews found the neighbors and family providing CPR to the unresponsive victim,” Riddle stated. “The victim was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. The victim was then flown by helicopter to Norfolk Sentara Hospital and is in critical condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at CHKD.”

The chief added that the Windsor Police Department is investigating the the incident, but that so far it does appear to be accidental.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends during this time,” Riddle said.
