To the Editor:

I wanted to write and say how much I appreciated Congressman Forbes’ recent Op-Ed on the American Spirit. He hit the nail on the head when he said a key reason America is exceptional is because of our unique founding and heritage. I fear that today we are losing an appreciation and understanding of that heritage — but it is comforting to know my representative in Congress understands and values those foundational principles the same way I do.

Watching the news and seeing what’s going on in Washington, I can’t say I usually feel a lot of hope for the future of our country. But after reading Congressman Forbes’ Op Ed, I thought: maybe he is right. Maybe if America wakes up and remembers the founding principles that made us great in the first place, there is hope that we can turn our course around and push forward to a future that is brighter and freer than ever before.

It will take guts and hard work, but — with members of Congress like Randy Forbes standing and fighting alongside us — maybe we can do it.
