FRANKLIN — Mary Davis Edwards, 87, widow of Dr. Robert Thomas Edwards, passed away on July 2, 2015.

Mrs. Edwards was a native of Mobjack, Virginia, and had lived in Franklin for 64 years. She was the daughter of the late Maurice Allen Davis and Alice Healy Davis, and was also pre-deceased by three brothers, Wilson Healy Davis, Maurice Allen Davis Jr. and Warren Frank Davis.

Mrs. Edwards was a graduate of Longwood College and taught at Franklin High School and in Richmond. She was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church, a former president of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and active in garden and bridge clubs for many years. Mary was a gracious hostess who loved entertaining her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Nancy Van Der Griend and husband, Ken, of Oak Park, Illinois; Robert Thomas Edwards Jr. and wife, Mary Landon, of Norfolk; and Scott Davis Edwards and wife, Alisa, of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Mary Cate Kuhl and husband, Corey Kuhl; Ellie Van Der Griend, Gretchen Edwards, Hallie Edwards, Rob Edwards and Carolyn Edwards. She is also survived by a sister, Roberta D. Huey and husband, Harvey Huey, of Ashburn, Virginia; a brother, R. Turner Davis of Mobjack; and many nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be at noon on Saturday, July 11, in Franklin Baptist Church. Following the service there will be a reception at The Village at Woods Edge.
