Richard M. Mayfield

NEWSOMS — Mr. Richard M. Mayfield, 77, of Thomaston Road, passed away in his home on June 26, 2015.

The Southampton native was born on July 9, 1937, to Richard L. and Nomie D. Mayfield.

Mr. Mayfield was an automobile mechanic for more than 25 years. He was a member of St. Paul U.C.C. in Hansom, where he served on the Senior Choir and as groundskeeper. Richard also served his country honorably in the United States Navy. During his youth, he attended Southampton County Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Annie Bell Parker; four brothers, Vernon Mayfield, James Mayfield, Roosevelt Mayfield and Algie Mayfield; and one grandchild, Ginger Ann Parker.

Richard’s memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Bernice M. Mayfield; three daughters, Mary Vaughan, Louise Barnes and Sharon Anderson; two sons, Chuck Mayfield and Raymond Mayfield; two step-daughters, Eileen Everette and Sylvia Tyree; two stepsons, O’Berry Everette and Chester Everette; two sisters, Sally Oakley and Dollie Mayfield; three brothers, Charles Mayfield, George Mayfield and Eddie Mayfield; 18 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, in-laws and many caring friends.

The life’s celebration will be on Friday, July 3, at 2 p.m., in St. Paul U.C.C., 28301 Hansom Road, with the pastor, the Rev. J.J. Ferguson, delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

On the day of service, his remains will be placed in church for viewing by noon.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
