To the Editor:

The Isle of Wight County Board has pulled the carpet out from under the volunteer Events Committee. Yes, volunteer. How can this help the county cut expenses and reap kudos for community recognition?

Who is going to hold the Veteran’s Day Memorial and light the Christmas Tree?

Who will hang the banners proclaiming appreciation to these volunteers (the county no longer has)? Where are the banners, anyway? We had to ‘turn them in.’

If Parks and Recreation ‘staff’ does these events, will they get paid? If no one does it, what does that tell our veterans?

Whose idea was this, anyway?
