COURTLAND
Following a three-month investigation, Courtland resident John Robert Carr, 80, was arrested and charged with attempted rape and four counts of indecent liberties after the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that he committed said offenses on a 5-year-old in February of 1963.

“There was enough information to carry before the grand jury on May 18,” said Major Gene H. Drewery, spokesman for the sheriff’s office. “On that day, the grand jury voted a true bill, which causes the indictments to be issued.”

Carr turned himself in on May 25, and was subsequently released on $10,000 secured bond.

He has since retained an attorney and is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday, June 26, at 9 a.m.
