Broncos qualify for individual, team relay track championships

The following Franklin High School Track team members competed in the Region 1A East Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Sussex Central High School on May 28. Eighteen girls teams and 16 boys teams competed at this event.

Franklin girls results:

• Qwa’Neisha Barnes, in the 800-meter, with a time of 3:27.89; 1600, 7:59.60;

• Brionna Cannady, in the shot put with a distance of 18-03;

• Cierra Eley, in the long jump at a distance of 12.11.75, which was a personal best;

• Nachelae Harper, in the discus throw, with a distance of 35-09;

• Taciona Smith, in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:01.69, a personal best;

• Josie Rankin placed fifth in the long jump, with a distance of 15-09, which was a personal best; regional runner up in high jump, getting over the 4-10 bar, which is her personal best; 100-meter hurdles at a time of 20.14; and the 400 with a time of 1:14.31;

• Katelynn Woolfolk, in the 800-meter, with a time of 3:32.30; shot put at a distance of 19-04.50, which is a personal best; and a long jump distance of 11-01.75;

• Skiler Woolfolk, in the 800 meter with a time of 2:59.36, which was a personal best); 1600-meter, with a time of 8:04.45; and a discus throw distance of 41-07;

• The girls’ 4×100-meter relay team came in at a time of 55.38; members are Cannady, Eley, Jazmin Jordan and Rankin.

Franklin boys results:

• Javonte’ Baker, tied for first in the 100-meter, with a time of 11.39; earned third place in the 200-meter with a time of 2.84; and competed in the long jump for a distance of 18-08;

• Quayshaun Jefferson, in the 100 with a time of 11.64; the 200 with a time of 23.68; was the region’s runner up in the 400 with a time of 52.06; long jump, at a distance of 19-04.50; triple jump at a distance of 40.09.50, which was a personal best; and high jump, getting over the 5-04 bar;

• Arron Sumblin, in the triple jump, at a distance of 33-06;

• Jawun Walton, in the 100, with a time of 11.91; in the 200 with a time of 25.29; long jump, at a distance of 18.00.50; triple jump at a distance of 37-04, which was a personal best; high jump, getting over the 5-06 bar;

• The boys 4×100-meter relay team finished with a time of 45.32. Members of the team are Baker, Jefferson, Gerrell Porter and Walton, with Sumblin as an alternate.

The Franklin girls finished 10th overall at the meet, while the boys finished ninth.

Josie Rankin qualified for the VHSL State Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the long and high jump.

JaVonte’ Baker qualified for the State Tournament in the 100, 200, and as anchor to the 4X100 relay team.

Quayshaun Jefferson qualified for the State Tournament in the 400 and the 3rd leg of the 4X100 relay team.

Porter, Walton and Sumblin (alternate) also qualified as members of the 4X100M Relay Team.

The VHSL State Outdoor Championships will be held at Radford University in Radford on June 5-6. The festivities will start today at 2:30 p.m. and at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
