Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation have reopened the Route 189 bridge over the Blackwater River. The bridge was closed on April 6 for superstructure repairs, and the work was completed earlier than expected; all lanes were reopened on Thursday.

“[The maintenance] is a repair to the surface of the swing span/grid deck, making sure it remains safe for traffic,” VDOT spokesperson Laurie Simmons said prior to the closure.

Simmons also said that there is a full bridge replacement in the works, estimated at $21.9 million, but that the project is not funded at this time.
