WINDSOR
If the sound of revving engines gets your own motor running, then the annual Truck and Tractor Pull is for you.

For the second year in a row, the Isle of Wight County Fair will present the event on Saturday, May 23, at the Heritage Park Fairgrounds. The action starts at 3:30 and continues to 11 p.m.

Billy Goodman, who serves as the food chairman for the Isle of Wight County Fair, said he’d been nominated to handle the truck and tractor pull.

“I kind of do a little bit of everything, more or less,” Goodman said.

He added that the Fair Committee took over the activity, which had been going on under different management before. Dragon Motorsports Inc. is the producer.

Truck and Tractor competition classes will include: 6200 Outlaw Street, 6200 National 4×4, 6400 Pro Stock 4×4, 7800 Light Pro Stock Tractors and 10,000 Super Pro Farm Tractors.

“We should have a good one this year,” he said about the participation, mentioning that there will be about seven to nine contestants in each class.

“The 6400 classes will probably attract more,” said Goodman, who’s already quite familiar with the contest. “I did a little with truck pulling. I used to be with the Wakefield Tractor Pull Association.”

Asked what he enjoys about the event, his answer’s obvious:

“It’s the horsepower!”

The sight and sound of the vehicles generating smoke and noise gets everybody excited. You can find that out for yourself the weekend after next.

The cost of admission is $15 per adult, $8 for children ages 3-10; and free for children ages 2 and under.

The Isle of Wight Ruritans will prepare and sell food, such as pork tenderloin.

The Lions Club will sell beer. No coolers are allowed, and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

The Windsor High School band is scheduled to play the National Anthem.

The Fairgrounds is located at 21311 Courthouse Highway in Windsor.
