TO: An Unknown Father

TAKE NOTICE THAT a Petition for Adoption of a female minor child named above (born Karisma Ivery Speller), who was born to Karena Vernee Smallwood on March 19, 2003 in Hertford County, North Carolina, was filed in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Bertie County, State of North Carolina on April 22, 2015.

This child was conceived in or about June 2002. At the time of conception, the child’s mother, then known as Karena Smallwood, was a student at Southampton Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing, located in Franklin, Virginia. She was employed at the hospital as a health unit coordinator, and she drove a grey 1989 Mazda 626.

You must file a response to the Petition not later than June 5, 2015 in order to participate in and receive further notice of the proceeding, including notice of the time and place of hearing. The Clerk of Court will enter an order allowing the adoption to proceed without your consent if there is no response. Any and all rights you may have with respect to the minor will be extinguished and all aspects of any legal relationship between the minor and you as parent will be terminated with the entry of the Decree of Adoption.
