Two men were sent to the hospital following a crash on Holland Road at 12:17 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
The men suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to a city press release. The crash happened on the westbound side near the intersection with Leafwood Road, in the 8000 block.
A preliminary investigation determined that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was following a slow-moving farm vehicle when the tractor-trailer hit the pickup from behind and forced it from the roadway, Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink stated in a press release. The tractor-trailer then came to rest against several trees on the right side of the road.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel treated both drivers, who were the only occupants in their vehicles. The driver of the tractor-trailer was flown by Nightingale air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and the driver of the pickup was driven by ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital, according to Klink.
Part of the roadway was closed for part of the afternoon while the investigation and cleanup continued.
