Support the increased local funding for schools

To the Editor:

To say that an almost $900,000 cut in state funding for Southampton County Schools is a disaster is an understatement. It is a fact that must be dealt with. Teachers will be lost, our children’s education will suffer.

The Superintendent and School Board of Southampton County Schools have asked for about $200,000 in increased local funding to attempt to cushion the blow of lost state funding.

I strongly urge the Board of Supervisors to fund the increase in local spending for our schools. I am confident that this increase can be funded without a tax increase. I understand it is not the fault of the Board of Supervisors for the state funding cuts, but it is the responsibility of all of us to do what is best for our children.

If you have children or grandchildren in school, or are just concerned about the education of our children I urge you to call your representative on the Board of Supervisors. Ask them to support the increased local funding for our schools!
