IWCS School Board picks superintendent candidates

The Isle of Wight County School Board has selected candidates to be interviewed as part of the superintendent search. This news from spokeswoman Kenita Bowers came after the board’s meeting on Thursday afternoon. The members convened to announced the dates for interviews.

The meeting was part of the board’s process to find a replacement for Supt. Dr. Katrise Perera. In December, she announced her resignation to attend to a family matter. But she is able to stay through the budget process and to the end of the school year on June 30.

“Of the 41 inquiries received, there were 34 full applications. After reviewing applications with the Virginia School Board Association (VSBA), the applicants were narrowed down and candidates were selected for interviews,” Bowers stated in a press release.

She added that were 25 men and nine women who applied.

They come from various localities with 16 Virginia applicants and 18 out-of-state applicants: North Carolina (5); Washington, D.C. (2); Colorado (1); Kentucky (1); Ohio (1); South Carolina (1); Massachusetts (1); Michigan (1); New York (1); West Virginia (1); Maryland (1); Arizona (1); and Tennessee (1). Their experience includes: seven current/former superintendents; 10 assistant/associate/deputy superintendents; 12 central office administrators; two principal/building level administrators; and three other.

Bowers added on Friday morning that the board voted to conduct seven interviews from Wednesday, April 22 through Wednesday, May 6.
