FRANKLIN
A fight in a S.P. Morton Elementary School classroom became so serious on Thursday that the Franklin Police Department and Franklin Fire and Rescue squad had to be called in.

When the call was logged at 2:22 p.m., it was also noted that the parents on the scene were acting disorderly, said Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for FPD.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the fight was between an 8-year-old female and a 9-year-old male. The male had scratches on his face and was transported to the emergency room at Southampton Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Whitt said the report did not mention what caused the fight. By the time officers arrived, the parents were not out of control and were not charged.

The parents were explained the procedure for legal recourse should they wish to pursue charges.

Officials with S.P. Morton and the school system could not be reached for comment.
