BRANCHVILLE—Carol Elaine Harris, 73, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, born on April 5, 1941, and formerly of Branchville Virginia, passed away on March 29, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Gladys Edwards, and her in-laws, Arthur and Evelyn Harris.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Arthur B. Harris Jr.; a daughter, Laura (Brett) Ehrenzeller of Suffolk, Virginia; two sons, Art (Susan) Harris, Knightdale, North Carolina, and Troy (Gloria) Harris of Roanoke, Virginia.

Elaine was very proud of each of her nine grandchildren: Eric, Christian, Blayne, Nicholas and Harrison Ehrenzeller, Katelyn and Reid Harris, Kelsey and Noah Harris.

She is also survived by her sister, Diane (Cynthia Johnson) Edwards of Wilmington, North Carolina; two brothers, Gene (Tobey) Edwards and Darwin (Wanda) Edwards, both of Sedley, Virginia; sister-in-law, Suzanne Williams of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and her best friend, Jeannie Harris of Raleigh, North Carolina. Elaine was also loved by many nieces and nephews.

Elaine graduated from Petersburg General Hospital with a certificate in nursing, graduated from Paul D. Camp College with an Associate degree in Nursing, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Hampton University, and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from VCU/Medical College of Virginia. Elaine was working toward her Nurse Practitioner degree when she began her fight against cancer. She has practiced nursing in Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.

Elaine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, Virginia, with Mr. Jim Councill officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elaine’s honor to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Susan, Jeannie, Transitions Hospice Home, Sunnybrook Rehab and Duke Regional Raleigh for all of their devotion, love and care of Elaine.
