Although we’ve editorialized before about the Franklin High School robotics program, we don’t mind singing their praises again from time to time. We’re not completely down on the city school system, contrary to what school board members might think.

The local robotics team, which we think appropriately calls itself the Builders of Tomorrow, competed in the Richmond Regional. An unsettling incident in the first round upset everyone concerned. Thankfully, the competition required winning two rounds out of three, and the alliance featuring Franklin came back especially strong in the next activities. Winning in those events meant the team had won its third consecutive victory in as many years. The latest triumph of the BOTs permits them to participate in the internationals, which will take place mid-April in St. Louis, Missouri.

Even if the team had not won again, the participation speaks well of the students, their advisors, parents and the school. It’s a strong example that there’s a lot in Franklin that merits support from all involved.

The BOTs are to be congratulated, and we urge continued support of every kind for this grand exercise of cooperation, critical thinking and intellectual ingenuity.
