Lady Dukes overpower Franklin netters

On Wednesday, the Lady Dukes of Windsor High School had no problem dispatching the Franklin High School Lady Broncos 9-0 on the tennis courts. On Monday, the Lady Broncos lost a close one in the season opener at Surry High School to the Lady Cougars 5-4.

Against Windsor, with Brianna Karmilovich absent, her sister Erin lost on the No. 1 court to Waverli Taylor 6-1, 6-3.

For Windsor, Calli Barton and Lydia Hurst picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins against Alexis Rodgers and Kiana Reid.

Playing against Surry, Brianna picked up the No. 1 win 8-2 against Vondda Saunders. Qwaniesha Barnes of Franklin also bested Braila Peirce 8-2. The match was played using the 8-game pro set due to impending weather.

The Karmilovich sisters picked up a win in doubles 8-6 for Franklin, and the team of Alexis Rodgers and Shadeejah Hunt also earned Franklin an 8-5 win.

The other Lady Broncos couldn’t get it going, with Kiana Reid being the closest in an 8-4 loss to Na Quanya, while she and Barnes were more narrowly defeated by Bryne Grissett and Braila Peirce of Surry 8-5.

The Lady Broncos next host Northampton High School on Monday, March 30. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
