ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY
School Board Chairman Kent Hildebrand has announced his plans to resign from the Isle of Wight County School Board due to personal reasons. His resignation is effective immediately.

“The decision to resign from the school board was very difficult for me, but I feel that it is in the best interest of our school division,” Hildebrand said. “I have been honored to work with my fellow board members, division Superintendent Dr. [Katrise] Perera, and her staff over the past four years. It is my sincere hope that my stepping down will not in any way disrupt the focus on the needs of our students as the school division continues moving forward in a positive direction.”

The school board is expected to vote on who will fill the Newport district seat in a special-called meeting prior to the scheduled Budget Work Session today, March 18. The meeting will be at Windsor Elementary School at 5 p.m.

“On behalf of Isle of Wight County Schools, we wish Mr. Hildebrand the absolute best,” Perera said. “I know that this was not an easy choice for him to make, and I commend him for acting in the best interest of our school division. His time on the school board has been spent advocating and supporting our mission of preparing all of our students for educational excellence and for that he is greatly appreciated.”
