SEBRELL—Paul Wiseman Simmons, 69, a lifelong resident of Sebrell, passed away on March 9, 2015 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Paul was a fourth-generation Southampton County farmer who worked with his grandfather, father and son on the Dead Elm Farm in Sebrell.

He was a 1968 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, and served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

He was a lifetime member of Sebrell United Methodist Church and taught the Wesley Class for over 40 years. Paul was a member of the Sebrell Civic Club, and the Southampton County Agriculture and Farm Museum.

Left to cherish his memory are his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Peggy Bunn Simmons; a daughter, Kimberly Simmons Pope and her husband, Mark; a son, David Paul Simmons and his wife, Heather; four grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Simmons, Madeline Paige Simmons, Anne Jackson Pope and Tripp Westbrook Pope; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

The graveside funeral with military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, in the Barn Tavern Cemetery, Sebrell, with the Rev. Rita Kanten officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the Sebrell Community Center.
