Eleanor B. Faircloth

IVOR—Mrs. Eleanor Bryant Faircloth, widow of John T. Faircloth Jr., and the daughter of the late Elsie Rowe Bryant and George Linwood Bryant, passed away on Feb. 22, 2015.

She was born on May 6, 1921, at the Bryant family farm in Courtland, and was a graduate of Courtland High School class of 1938.

Eleanor married John Thomas Faircloth Jr. in 1946 and made their home in Ivor for 62 years.

She was a former member of Courtland Junior Woman’s Club, and was recognized at the 40th anniversary for appreciation of distinguished service to the community and the nation in the year of 1985. She was selected a 4-H Club “All Star” member by Virginia Tech in 1935.

An active and dedicated member of Ivor Baptist Church, she was a member of the choir for many years; assistant youth superintendent and teacher of the youth department and served in many other capacities. She was also a member of Ivor Woman’s Club and served as an officer in the organization for many years, a member of American Cancer Society of Southampton County and Franklin-Southampton County Fair Committee, and an extensive volunteer of Louise Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

Eleanor was a domestic engineer for her devoted husband, John, and an avid bridge player. She enjoyed many hobbies and collecting history subjects.

Survivors include a devoted niece, Christy Faircloth Lynch and husband, Jim Lynch; many other nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Selma Graves; and a brother-in-law, Hermer H. Faircloth.

The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. in Ivor Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Lytle Buckingham and Rev. Donald Roberts. Burial will follow in Ivor Cemetery.
