An Emporia man died in the hospital after sustaining a stab wound to his upper torso in Franklin, though not before identifying the attacker, who was apprehended Tuesday afternoon, said Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.
The suspect, Michael Clifton Trotman, 24, of the 700 block of West Second Avenue, Franklin, was arrested without incident. He was charged with murder and is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
Late Monday night, Franklin Police Officers arrived at the Webb Commons Apartments in reference to a stabbing. There, they found Alvin Powell, 35, of Emporia inside his vehicle. He had been stabbed once in his upper torso.
Officers were able to get a statement from him about the suspect before Powell was transported to Norfolk General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
