Isle of Wight County Fair Chairman Danny Byrum was elected to the Virginia Association of Fairs Board of Directors at its annual conference in January. Byrum was honored to receive this endorsement by his peers, and has committed to work towards furthering the Virginia Association of Fair’s mission.
The VAF works to provide education, information and direction to fairs and festivals in Virginia, as well as enhance their productivity, economic viability and administrative capability. Through the efforts of local county fairs held throughout the state each year, economic growth, tourism, and quality of life are benefits passed along to Virginia communities.
Also in January, the Board of Supervisors approved the Isle of Wight County Fair Committee’s recommended slate of officers that includes: Danny Byrum, chairman; Michelle Billups, vice chairwoman; Alan Brown, second vice chairman; and Debbie Braswell, secretary and treasurer. The newly elected members of the Fair Committee include Cathy Richards, Pageant chairwoman; Jared Brown, Motorsports chairman; and Ann Trapani, Sponsorship chairwoman.
The Isle of Wight County Fair Committee works in cooperation with the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation and other County departments to produce Isle of Wight’s largest special event. The County Fair, held at the Joel C. Bradshaw Fairgrounds in Heritage Park located on Route 258 just north of Windsor, boasts an average attendance of more than 30,000 people over the four-day event. The upcoming Isle of Wight County Fair will take place from Thursday, Sept. 17-20.
