The Franklin High School Broncos had no problem on Tuesday night slaying the Dragons of Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in a TriRivers District basketball game, 53-37.

The Broncos were able to get back in the win column following a four-game losing streak.

The game started out slow for both teams, but the Broncos started to light it up in the second and third quarters, scoring 18 and 25 points, respectfully. And on the defensive side of the ball during those quarters, Franklin held the Dragons to 14 points.

“The word is effort,” said head coach Robby Cutchins. “We believe in ourselves and we believe in each other and tonight we played a phenomenal basketball game, and that is what I have been telling our players all year. Tonight was a big deal, we played them earlier at their place and we only won by two points.”

Darrien Duck led the Broncos with 18 points, while Domique Gainey had 13. Quayshaun Jefferson also got to double figures with 10 points.

With a win against the Dragons (1-14), Cutchins said he was hopeful that they would build enough power points to seal the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference playoffs.

Before the playoffs, though, the Broncos (8-11) have to host a tough Division 2A Brunswick High School Bulldogs (13-4) for senior night. The Bulldogs defeated the Broncos 75-45 back in December in Lawrenceville.
