Changes to 460 are inadequate

To the Editor:

I just finished reading your letter in The Tidewater News and I agree 100 percent. I make the drive from Richmond to Hampton Roads almost daily, 50 percent on I-64 and 50 percent on 460. Both have their problems, but 460 is the most unsafe by far.

With no shoulders, 10-foot lanes, and traffic moving at inconsistent speeds, driving is challenging.

I do think that the proposed design changes to 460 are inadequate and driving on the highway while construction is being done to improve the original right of way will be a big hassle.

PS: Did you know that VDOT has just installed an electronic sign on 64 East between the High Rise bridge and George Washington Hwy. giving estimated times to Richmond via 64 vs. 460?

At rush hour when there are back-ups on the peninsula this will probably influence more drivers to try 460.
