NEWSOMS—Catherine Boyette Cobb, 95, a long-time resident of Newsoms, passed away on Feb. 1, 2015, at East Pavilion in Franklin, Virginia.
She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Ricks Cobb, her father, Robert Francis Boyette, and her mother, Virgie Edwards Boyette.
Mrs. Cobb graduated from Newsoms High School and was a 1935 graduate of the State Teachers’ College in Farmville, Virginia. She began her teaching career in Oceanna, and from there she taught several years at Courtland Elementary School. But most of her teaching was at Newsoms Elementary School.
She was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, and served as a trustee and past-president of the United Methodist Women. She also served as the Newsoms Charge treasurer, and was presented a plaque for her 25 years of service in this capacity.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Cobb Grizzard; her son-in-law, Billy Grizzard; granddaughter, Cathy Yeatts and husband, Kevin Yeatts; and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Yeatts.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at East Pavilion for the care she was given and the kindness she was shown.
