FRANKLIN
The Franklin High School Broncos traveled on Monday and battled against the Northampton High School Yellowjackets on the basketball court in their first Conference 41 match. However, being shorthanded, with two of their starters not traveling due to sickness, was too much to overcome in the 50-44 loss.

Broncos head coach Robby Cutchins said the team was still in it going into the fourth quarter, with the score tied at 29-all. However, the lack of depth, as a player off the bench also did not suit up, combined with the Yellowjackets making four free-throw shots at the end of the game, did the Broncos in.

“I was extremely proud of how these young men battled tonight,” Cutchins said. “When you’re faced with adversity like they were tonight being down three guys and still putting up that kind of fight was impressive. The bottom line is these young men wanted to win the basketball game and fought with everything they had trying to make that happen.”

The Broncos (7-9) lost 81-38 to 3A Park View in a TriRivers District match on Friday. Franklin, on a two game losing streak, travels to face Surry tonight in what is both a 1A Conference 41 and a TriRivers District match.

“We are doing everything we can to get healthy and to put ourselves in the best position possible to make a run in the playoffs,” Cutchins said.
