FRANKLIN—Helen Worrell Simmons, 88, passed away on Jan. 22, 2015, at her residence in The Village at Woods Edge.
A native of Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Bettie Edwards Worrell, and was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Wallace S. Simmons.
She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Longwood College. She taught school in Danville, Hampton, Henrico County, and Southampton County, Virginia.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Holly W. Simmons, of Portsmouth, Virginia; and nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with the Rev. John Ashley officiating. The reception will be held in The Village at Woods Edge at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Wright Funeral Home, and suggests memorials be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Franklin, VA 23851.
