SEDLEY—Born on Sept. 5, 1944, to Julian Linwood Whitley and Leatha Edwards Whitley, formerly of Sedley, Virginia. Shirley married James A. Coggsdale Jr., and lived in Suffolk, Virginia, for the majority of her adult years until the couple moved to Newport Richey, Florida, where she died on Dec. 18, 2014.

Left to cherish her memory are husband, Jimmy, of Florida; one daughter, Connie Coggsdale Renn (Frank) of Courtland, Virginia; two sons, James A. Coggsdale III and Kenneth B. Coggsdale, both of Franklin, Virginia; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters: Patsy Whitley Butler (C.J. Clark) of Colerain, North Carolina; Linda Whitley Johnson of Courtland; Nettie Whitley Boyce (Roger) of Sedley; and Jean Whitley Barrett (Keith) of Zuni, Virginia; two brothers, Ronald Edwards Whitley of Franklin and David Lee Whitley (Dawn) of Capron; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, with the Rev. Curt Faison officiating.
