Frances Shapland Odell,83, of Richmond, passed away on Jan. 13, 2015, at her home.

She was born at Boone’s Mill in Essex County, Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Annie Swann Shapland and the Rev. Richard H. Shapland, a former Newsoms Methodist Church minister.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Burgess Odell Sr., and a grandson, Kevin Odell.

Frances was a 1949 graduate of Newsoms High School, and a former employee of the old Raiford Hospital in Franklin.

Left to cherish her memory are five children, Fred B. Odell Jr. (Annie), Cynthia O. Lacy (Butch), Gail Kerrick (Jason), Kinney Odell (Sarah), and Howard Odell (Della); two sisters, Iva S. Brown and Ann S. Stephens; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, in Wright Funeral Home, 206 W. 4th Ave., Franklin, Virginia, with the Rev. Rita Kanten officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley, Virginia.

Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
