On Monday, the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors elected Rex W. Alphin as chairman. Alphin serves as the representative of the Carrsville District of Isle of Wight County.

In an excerpt from his comments, Alphin said, “To the citizens of this unique County, I’ll offer you my efforts to ensure a Board characterized by integrity, courage and transparency… We shall strive to view an issue from different angles, to be reflective and not reactive, to listen with an unprejudiced ear and to speak the truth when necessary. In essence, we shall endeavor to struggle well. Now, the year awaits us. We have providentially been granted a splendid county, a dynamic diverse citizenry and an exceptionally competent team. Let’s get to work!”

The entirety of Alphin’s remarks will be published on Wednesday on the editorial page.

The board also elected Delores “Dee Dee” Darden as the vice chairman. Darden is the Windsor District representative.
