WILLIAMSBURG—Robert Paul Smith, 81, passed away on Dec. 29, 2014.

Born in Alabama, he was the only child of Tillman Dewey and Jewell Gilley Smith.

Mr. Smith was an Army veteran, and a graduate of Auburn University. He was a retired aeronautical space engineer with NASA involved with the engineering of both the Apollo and Gemini XII spacecrafts.

He was a member of the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and Williamsburg United Methodist Church.

Bob was a loyal family man and friend and caregiver to those he loved. He will miss his rounds of golf, his poker buddies, and his best friend and loving wife, Mary B.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary B. Moyler Smith; brother-in-law, James E. Moyler Jr.; nephew, Jim Moyler and his wife, Charlotte, and their son, Jake; niece, Rees Johnston and her husband, Tommy, and their daughter, Atlee, and son, Welden, and his wife, Michelle; and niece, Amy McCarthy, and her husband, John, and their children, C.C., John and Walker.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, in Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg with Dr. Bill Jones officiating. Burial will be private at Poplar Spring, Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
