Capron-Bernice Simmons Gillette, 94, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday December 26, 2014. Born on November 27, 1920, she was the daughter of Robert Augustus and Missy Spain Simmons, and the wife of the late William Benjamin (Ben) Gillette.

Bernice began employment with the Bank of Capron , where she remained employed for 34 years. She was a member of the Capron United Methodist Church, where she served many years as the Church Secretary and Treasurer. She was also a member of the Capron United Methodist Women and a past member of the Capron Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by sisters Hattie Bond (Ed) and Helen Davis (Garland); and her brothers Robert (Mason), Kilby(Mabel), and Gus(Edith).

Left to cherish her memory are many nieces, nephews and greats.

A funeral service will be at 2PM Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Capron United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Palmer and William Hart Gillette officiating. Interment will be in the Capron Cemetery.

A reception will follow the service at the Capron Community House.
